Two years ago the New Cambodian Artists dance team performed at the 1961 Coworking Space and Art Gallery. Now they’re back, only this time you are hitting the dance floor!
For the past three weeks Alex Hitchmough, Organizational and Artistic Assistant at New Cambodian Artists, has been teaching contemporary dance classes to benefit the organization and give Siem Reap residents a creative fitness outlet.
New Cambodian Artists believes in female empowerment through dance. The team, made up of four girls and one leader puts together contemporary dance performances for local communities. Each performance is followed by a Q & A session and a dance workshop.
“We like breaking social norms. For example, why can’t Cambodians perform contemporary dance? We take traditional ideas and create something new.” Alex explains.
True to their mission, the girls take the lead teaching the workshop and sharing their experiences with dance.
And now they are bringing dance to you.
“I’ve always taught dance and noticed there was a lack of opportunities in Siem Reap,” Alex said.
But if you’re worried about your rusty box step, have no fear.
“It’s all about having fun and a little bit of fitness, not putting on a show,” Alex reassures.

So if you’re looking for something do fill your Thursday nights, why not get your groove on while supporting New Cambodian Artists!
